What makes this bolt-catch different
The Black Widow FANG was built for belt-fed lowers, not a magazine carbine.
On the OmniFeed™, BF-6 (LIMA 6), and BFAR, the bolt-catch slot is cut all the way across the receiver. A standard AR lower is not cut that way. The standard slot stops short, and a strip of metal is left in the way. Our slot is open all the way across. The FANG is machined for that open slot, which is why the bolt-catch body can cross it, and the paddle can lie along the right side of the receiver.
A standard AR bolt catch is aluminum, and it is sized for a lighter gun. These lowers are a different job: more cycling, more slaps on the paddle, and a heavier gun. The FANG is machined from 4140 chrome-moly steel, with a larger paddle you can hit with a glove. The paddle sits on the right side of the receiver and angles back toward the stock, so forward movement through thick terrain rides over the leading edge instead of hooking it. On a belt-fed gun, the upper and feed tray already sit over the lower and partially shield the bolt catch paddle as well.
